On 12 February 2014, at Center of New Industries and Technologies in Paris, within the third edition of Urbaccess European Accessibility and Universal Design Exhibition, was held the ceremony of Design for All Foundation Awards.
The project League of Historical and Accessible Cities, in which Sozopol Foundation takes part, was recognized as a good practice in advance and during the ceremony was awarded with a prestigious 2014 International Design for All Award.
The award was accepted by Ms. Maria Orejas-Chantelot, Thematic Networks Director at the European Foundation Centre, which is organizing the project. The ceremony was also attended by representatives of organizations participating in the project and Ms. Petya Zelenski represented Sozopol Foundation.
The League of Historical and Accessible Cities was launched in 2010. Its main aim is to reconcile cultural heritage protection and accessibility for all. It is being implemented by eleven foundations in five countries across Europe – Spain, Italy, France, Denmark and Bulgaria, which is represented by Sozopol Foundation and the town of Sozopol.
The town of Sozopol was selected thanks to the projects of Sozopol Foundation, implemented from 2003 to present, providing the restoration of cultural heritage within Ancient city of Apollonia Archaeological Reserve and access to that heritage for people with specific needs.
