On May 19, 2016 Her Excellency Mrs. Guro Katharina Helvik Vikør, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to the Republic of Bulgaria, visited the town of Sozopol. During her visit to the oldest city on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast, the Ambassador of Norway was accompanied by representatives of Sozopol Municipality and Mr. Kiril Arnautski – Chairman of Sozopol Foundation.
The hosts introduced Her Excellency Mrs. Vikør with the accomplished activities under project „Sozopol – preserved cultural heritage and cultural identity through the ages”, carried out by the Municipality of Sozopol and Sozopol Foundation, as project partners. The project started in 2015 with the signing of an agreement between the Ministry of Culture as a programme operator of the project and the Municipality of Sozopol as a beneficiary. The project is funded by the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area with leading financial contribution of the Kingdom of Norway.
Her Excellency Ms. Vikør was thoroughly acquainted with the activities, completed under the project and the great importance of the realization of such a project for the Municipality of Sozopol. The project is another evidence of the formed fulfilling and constructive partnership between local authorities and NGOs; good teamwork in protecting cultural heritage for future generations; providing accessible environment to cultural heritage; presentation of contemporary arts and culture, and contribution to cultural diversity. All these activities lead to sustainable development in the region and significantly improve the economic and social situation for the population.
Her Excellency Guro Katharina Helvik Vikør and the other guests agreed that the completed project is important for the development of museum deed and cultural tourism in Sozopol Municipality, Burgas region, as well as South-East planning region of Bulgaria.
