Sozopol Foundation, as the first Bulgarian non-governmental organization in official partnership of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and a member of the NGO-UNESCO Liaison Committee for a couple of two-year terms: from 2012 to 2014 and from 2014 to 2016, carries out its active work, observing the principles and objectives of the global Organization and working closely with the Secretariat of UNESCO and the NGO-UNESCO Liaison Committee.
Following the policies adopted by UNESCO, during the General Conference of non-governmental organizations, official partners of the Organization, which took place in the period 12-14 December 2016, were held elections for new members and a Chairman of the NGO-UNESCO Liaison Committee. Due to the requirement for a maximum number of consecutive two-year terms some members of the Committee, including Sozopol Foundation, are no longer members of the Liaison Committee.
After the final of the International event in Paris, Sozopol Foundation highlighted the role of Ms. Sabina Colombo, Chief of the UNESCO Desk for Intergovernmental and Non-Governmental Organizations, of the entire team of the Secretariat of UNESCO and their colleagues from the NGO-UNESCO Liaison Committee for the excellent organization of the Conference. The international event followed a certain optimal program, as attracted a great interest from governments, governmental and non-governmental organizations, media, experts and other guests.
During the Conference the Bulgarian NGO reiterated its willingness to continue to work closely with the Secretariat of UNESCO and the newly elected NGO-UNESCO Liaison Committee. The Foundation stressed the need for unity and cohesion of all stakeholders in order to achieve sustainable development worldwide.
