The cultural heritage of two neighbouring nations – open door through the millennia


Implementation period: 2011 ÷ 2013 years. Project value: 599 291, 88 euros. Funded by the European Union under the Cross-Border Cooperation Program and co-financed by the Bulgarian government.
The project aims to support sustainable development through protecting natural, cultural and historical heritage in the border region of Strandja Mountain (Bulgaria-Turkey) and creating more opportunities for public cultural development through joint international initiatives. The project activities include:

  • In the town of Sozopol (Bulgaria): Conservation and restoration works on the fortress walls within the Southern Panoramic Alley Street. After completing the activities in this part of the Reserve it will become an attractive centre for the visitors to rest.

  • In the town of Kirklareli (Turkey): Conservation and restoration works on the old building Türk Ocağı Evi that will be restored to function as a Cultural Centre in the historic town center of Kirklareli. This project will provide the basis and an impetus for further restoration projects in the historic town centre, as provided by the Kirklareli Town Development Plan.
