The Sozopol Foundation is applying for the World Travel and Tourism Council Tourism and Tourism Tourism Awards 2015, in Destination category. In the evaluation of the architectural and historical complex “South Fortress and Tower”, Sozopol was chosen as one of the three Finalists. After a judging by judges, the first prize was awarded to Ljubljana (Slovenia) with runners-up Sozopol (Bulgaria) and Northeast Coast (Taiwan). The “Tourism for Tomorrow” prizes to the World Tourism and Travel Council are aimed at recognizing good practices for sustainable tourism worldwide, based on:
– the principles of the protection of cultural and natural heritage through the use of environmentally friendly activities.
– direct benefits for the social and economic well-being of local people in tourist destinations around the world.
The architectural and historical complex is the center of active tourist activity. It is visited by many tourists – Bulgarians and foreigners, with an annual average of 17-19 thousand people.
