Melnik and Sandanski – new attractions and opportunities For cultural-historical tourism in the region


On November 3, at the invitation of Ms. Slavka Bozukova, editor in chief of Standard newspaper, representatives of Sozopol Foundation – prof. Dr. of History Violeta Nesheva and Mr. Kiril Arnautski, Chairman of the Board, attended the discussion-meeting „MELNIK AND SANDANSKI – NEW ATTRACTIONS AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR CULTURAL-HISTORICAL TOURISM IN THE REGION”, which was held in the conference hall of the hotel Melnik.

During the discussion, Ms. Slavka Bozukova launched the third stage of this year’s national campaign The Wonders of Bulgaria. Now tempted of the history will vote for the objects that gathered the most votes in two categories – Attractions and Discoveries to determine the top 3.

Tourist itinerary Land of Wonders will revive the glory of Sandanski, Petrich and Melnik as places full of history and cultural attractions. Deputies, local authorities, business representatives, historians and archaeologists have united on this matter. The newest route of the Pirin region includes the Episcopal Basilica in Sandanski, churches, old houses and excavations in Melnik, the temple of Reverend Stoina in the village of Zlatolist, Rozhen monastery, the ancient city of Heraclea Sintica, Rupite area, the house museum of Baba Vanga in Petrich, Samuil’s Fortress.
