The 1st conference on accessible tourism in Europe was help in San Marino on November 19 and 20, 2014. The forum was organized by the United Nations World Tourism Organization and participants from 25 countries from around the world attended it.
The event was opened with welcoming speeches by Mr. Pasquale Valentini, Minister of Foreign affairs of San Marino, Mr. Pascal Lamy, Chair of the World Committee on Tourism Ethics, Ms. Francesca Barracciu, Undersecretary of State, Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Italy, Mr. Teodoro Lonfernini, Minister of Tourism of San Marino, and Mr. Taleb Rifai, UNWTO Secretary-General.
The conference was split in three sessions with following discussions regarding heritage cities and universal accessibility, accessible tourism policies and strategies, accessible infrastructures and services. Mr. Lyubomir Durankev, International Projects Expert to Sozopol Foundation, presented the League of Historical and Accessible Cities, as well as the achievements of the Foundation for the provision of accessibility to the cultural heritage of the town of Sozopol.
Fifteen prominent experts in the field of accessibility, who have been working for the provision of universal accessibility to the cultural heritage on global, regional and local levels, also took part as speakers and moderators during the sessions.
