Sozopol Foundation, as the first Bulgarian NGO in consultative partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and a member of the NGO-UNESCO Liaison Committee carries out its activities very actively in accordance with the objectives and priorities of the United Nations (UN).
Among the main priorities of the Foundation is to promote active cooperation and coordination of NGOs at national, regional and global levels. That is why the Bulgarian organization took the decision to apply for consultative status to the UN Economic and Social Council. It is important to note that there is a separate department to the Council, committed and involved in the activities of the NGO sector. It is the focal point within the UN Secretariat for NGOs in consultative status with ECOSOC, as well to the NGOs seeking or striving to obtain status.
Following the guidelines and steps to obtain consultative status on February 19, 2016 Sozopol Foundation registered its profile on the website of ECOSOC. A few days later its profile was approved by the experts of the world organization. The next step to obtain consultative status is the submission of online application by the Bulgarian NGO. The application is composed of three main parts – completed questionnaire, a summary and supporting documents. The experts of Sozopol Foundation work actively and prepare all necessary documents for the official presentation of the candidacy.
