Sozopol Foundation was presented with an award ‚PARTNER OF THE MUNICIPALITIES’ for 2016 by the National Association of Municipalities of the Republic of Bulgaria


Sozopol Foundation, as a non-governmental organization that has given significant support for the implementation of municipal priorities in 2016, received the prestigious award ‘PARTNER OF THE MUNICIPALITIES’, established by the National Association of Municipalities of Republic of Bulgaria. On 31 October 2016 the award was presented by Mr. Panayot Reyzi, Mayor of Sozopol Municipality and Ms. Krasimira Germanova, Chairman of the Municipal Council of the Municipality of Sozopol, during a regular session of the municipal government at the premises of the Municipal Council of the town of Sozopol.

Nominees for the award of the National Association of Municipalities of the Republic of Bulgaria were proposed by the mayors of municipalities and the management board of the Association voted. The board voted unanimously for the proposal of Mr. Panayot Reyzi, Mayor of Sozopol Municipality, the Award for 2016 was given to Sozopol Foundation. Since its establishment in 2002, the international NGO has been actively working and assisting the local government in conservation of natural and cultural heritage, as well for provisioning accessible environment for people with disabilities. The main objectives and priorities of the Foundation are promotion of sustainable development, preservation cultural diversity and promotion of peace. The activities performed by the non-governmental organization are implemented in constructive cooperation with representatives of the state, local government, NGOs and the local population.

Sozopol Foundation is developing and successfully implementing a number of projects for the preservation of natural heritage, culture, traditions and cultural heritage. Realizing the need for a constructive cooperation, the Foundation, together with the local authorities and other stakeholders is working to improve intercultural dialogue, promotion of sustainable development and peace.

Sozopol Foundation, as an official partner of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), shares it experience in partnership with state and local authorities of the Republic of Bulgaria with partners from all around the world on a daily basis. It exchanges good practices and experiences with many non-governmental organizations at national, regional and international level.
