Thracian beehive tomb – symbol of Pomorie

The Thracian beehive tomb in Pomorie dates back to 2nd – 3rd century AD. It is thought to have served as a heroon (a mausoleum) of a wealthy Anhialo family, in which pagan religious rituals were performed.

The tomb is one of a kind on the Balkan Peninsula. Its architecture and construction impress us with their perfection. Many architects from around the world have studied the tomb in order to find out the secret of its mushroom-like dome. It was declared an architectural monument of national importance in 1965.

The project envisages conservation and restoration of the Thracian beehive tomb, improvement of the tourism infrastructure around it, and provision of accessible environment for people with specific needs.
