The active co-operation between Mr. Kiril Arnautski, Chairman of Sozopol Foundation and Mr. Andrew Delisle, honorary chairman of the Council of Elders of the Mohawk Indians, members of the Iroquois Confederacy in the U.S. and Canada, continues. They are extending their friendly co-operation towards protection and promotion of the cultural heritage and traditions of both nations – the Bulgarians and the Iroquois.
Mr. Andrew Delisle and Mr. Kiril Arnautski In 2013 Mr. Andrew Tanahokate Delisle, honorary chairman of the Council of Elders, as well as members of the six Iroquois nations (Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca and Tuscarora) actively participated in The Standard Newspaper’s online voting campaign to determine The Miracles of Bulgaria. The Iroquois people gave their support for the relics of St. John the Baptist, discovered during archaeological works on St. Ivan Island near Sozopol. The works were carried out as part of a project implemented by Sozopol Foundation and funded by the Kingdom of Norway.
Impressed by the active international relations of Sozopol Foundation and Mr. Kiril Arnautski in the field of conservation of natural and cultural heritage, Mr. Andrew Tanahokate (“Shooting the Rapids”) Delisle
and the other members of the Council of Elders gave to Mr. Kiril Arnautski a certificate honouring him with the Indian name “Rati kara nooh na” (“Guarding the History”).
The continuous contact between the two friends led to the exchange of many promotional materials regarding the traditions of the two nations – artistic crafts, festivals of folk songs and dances, as well as regarding the rich history of the Bulgarian and the Indian lands.
